Charles Marshall is the Chief Idea Officer and co-founder of Signature Advertising, a full-service advertising agency with a 23-year history of providing creative, solution-oriented work for a wide range of top-tier clients. Signature’s client roster includes many notable names:
- International Paper
- Hilton Worldwide
- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Though Signature is not focused on awards (the agency has an impressive collection of trophies and citations proudly displayed in a large trash can in their lobby), the accolade that means the most and reflects Signature’s client-focused philosophy is the Memphis Business Journal’s Small Business of the Year Award (2004).
Before founding Signature advertising with his business partner, Mark Henry, Charles graduated from the University of Memphis with a BS in English (Creative Writing). He began his writing career as a contract technical writer for FedEx and then a copywriter at Goldsmith’s department stores. He later moved to Marsha McDonald & Associates as a copywriter. He worked his way up to Creative Director before leaving to start Signature in 1994.
An active member in his community, Charles currently sits on the board of the Bobby Lanier Farm Park in Germantown and recently served as a judge in the Memphis Business Journal Small Business Awards. He has also served on the boards of the Memphis Fire Museum and Lamplighter Montessori School.
A solutions-oriented creative thinker, his has been the consistent vision that has helped guide Signature’s creative output. Over the past 30 years, Charles has won awards in every advertising medium imaginable and has worked on accounts in a multitude of industries.
A lifelong Memphian, Charles has committed time and agency resources to a variety of charitable endeavors, including the March of Dimes, Germantown Animal Shelter, New Day Children’s Theater, the WW2 Memorial in Washington, DC, the American Heart Association, Page Robbins, Real Good Dog Rescue, West Tennessee Pony Club and more.
Outside of the office, Charles is an avid basketball fan, both for the Memphis Grizzlies and University of Memphis Tigers. He’s the proud father of three daughters and resides in Germantown with his wife, local artist Mary Cour Burrows.
