Daphne T. Large
President & Chief Executive Officer
Daphne Large, CEO and President of Data Facts, started in the consumer reporting industry at age 16 with Equifax Services. In 1989, she founded Data Facts. Her successful consumer and business reporting company provides information employers and lenders can trust and rely on to make sound hiring and lending decisions.
Today, Data Facts serves customers in 38 states through its offices in Memphis, Little Rock and Houston with satellite offices throughout the country. The company is one of <10% of background screening firms nationally to achieve accreditation from the National Association of Professional Background Screeners.
With nearly 30 years of providing extraordinary customer service, Large knows what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. “Recognizing a need and being willing to assume the necessary risk to fill it is the simplest definition of an entrepreneur. Forbes says ‘entrepreneurs are the real money multipliers.’ This is an exciting part of being an entrepreneur, taking an idea and turning it into something.”
Large has been recognized by Inside Memphis Business as CEO of the Year and her company has been named by The Commercial Appeal as a Top Work Place as judged by employees in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
That devotion from employees gets direction from Large’s view of what it takes to run a successful business. “You need both leadership and management skills,” she says. “You’ve got to know when to lead, when to follow and when to get out of the way. And most importantly, if you take care of your people, they will take care of your customers who in turn will take care of your business. Your people, by far, are your greatest asset.”
“You have to be humble, hungry and people-smart and seek out those virtues in those you hire,” she adds. Along with a diverse skill set, you must be determined, tenacious, willing to put in long hours, and have a thick skin. Be flexible, a quick study, innovative, and most certainly a risk taker.”
Large has served as President of the National Consumer Reporting Association and is a founding member of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners. She believes in giving back to the community and is devoted to Memphis. She is the Chairman of the New Memphis Institute’s Board of Trustees, serves on the University of Memphis Leadership Education and Development Board, the Chairman’s Circle of the Memphis Chamber, the St. Georges Board of Trustees, the Youth Villages Leadership Council and the Germantown Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and supports and formerly served on the Board of Make-A-Wish Mid South and the Junior League of Memphis Advisory Board. She believes in the words of Winston Churchill:
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
